For years, Millheim’s trickling filter struggled to meet BOD and TSS discharge standards, especially during winter. The system’s performance was compromised by high influent strength from industrial waste and seasonal variations affecting biomass health, leading to poor effluent quality and failure to comply with regulations.
The solution was to implement a long-term, cost-effective, and easy-to-operate MBR system capable of handling seasonal temperature fluctuations and variable influent from local industrial facilities, while still meeting the state’s stringent effluent standards. Over the past seven years, the Millheim MBR plant has reliably met stringent effluent standards regardless of seasonal changes.
